Houston Dutch Lions FC Joins the UPSL: A New Era for Conroe Soccer

Conroe, TX – The Houston Dutch Lions FC proudly announce their entry into the United Premier Soccer League (UPSL), a move that signals the beginning of a bold new chapter in the club’s journey. For a team with a decorated history in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) and the Premier Development League (PDL), this is more than just a new league — it’s an opportunity to reconnect with the competitive spirit that has defined the Lions since day one, and to showcase that passion to an even wider audience.

This step into the UPSL not only positions the Lions among some of the most ambitious and competitive pro-development clubs in the country, but it also reignites the connection between the club, its players, and the community it proudly represents. From the training pitch to matchday, the Lions are preparing to deliver soccer at a level that demands the best from everyone involved — players, staff, and supporters alike.

A Legacy Built on Ambition and Results

Since its founding, Houston Dutch Lions FC has aimed high — not just to compete, but to lead. The club’s record speaks for itself. In 2016, the Lions made history in the NPSL by becoming South Central Conference Champions, a title that marked one of the greatest achievements in the club’s history. That same year, the club’s state-of-the-art facility became the stage for a memorable U.S. Open Cup match against professional side San Antonio FC, an event that brought national recognition to Conroe and proved the Lions could host big moments on their own turf.

The years in the PDL and NPSL were not just about trophies and memorable matches — they were about developing players, building a professional culture, and refining a playing philosophy rooted in Dutch football principles: technical precision, intelligent movement, and a team-first mentality. Those experiences laid the foundation for what comes next, and the UPSL is the perfect platform to build on that legacy.

Why the UPSL is the Right Move

For Executive Director Robbert Kroeze, joining the UPSL is a decision rooted in both opportunity and ambition:

“The UPSL gives us the platform to do what we’ve always done best — develop elite players in a professional environment — while also pushing ourselves to a new competitive standard. This league is respected nationwide, it offers year-round play, and it challenges clubs to be consistent, adaptable, and creative. We’ve shown in the PDL and NPSL that we can meet the highest standards, and now it’s time to prove that again in the UPSL.”

For CEO Dennis Kroeze, the move is a natural evolution for a club that thrives on challenges:

“Our history is full of moments where we’ve pushed beyond expectations — winning the South Central Conference, hosting an unforgettable U.S. Open Cup match, and building a facility that’s one of the best in the region. The UPSL is another step forward, and it’s going to test us in new ways. That’s exactly what we want — to keep raising the bar for ourselves and for the players who wear our badge.”

Matchday at the Lions’ Den

The Lions’ home facility in Conroe, Texas, will once again be the heart of the action. But this UPSL season, the club is aiming to transform each home match into something more than just a game.

“We want to make our home games something the community can’t wait to attend,” Robbert explains. “When the players walk onto the pitch, we want them to feel the energy of the fans. And when those fans leave, we want them to feel proud to be part of the Lions family.”

For the players, the matchday environment will be electric — an opportunity to perform in front of passionate supporters while knowing their performances are being captured on film, tracked through detailed stats, and made available for review and scouting.

The Road to Building the Squad

The Lions have officially opened registration for UPSL tryouts, scheduled for Saturday, August 16th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Houston Dutch Lions FC facility in Conroe. These tryouts are not just an open run — they are a structured, professional evaluation where players will be tested in both individual and team settings.

With limited spots available, the coaching staff is seeking players who not only have the talent but also the mentality, discipline, and work ethic to thrive at the UPSL level.

“We’re looking for players who want more than just a jersey,” Dennis says. “We want players who understand the responsibility of representing the badge, the community, and the standard we’ve set. It’s not just about skill — it’s about commitment, attitude, and the ability to perform when it matters.”

An Open Invitation to the Community

Whether you’ve been a supporter for years, are new to the Lions family, or simply love the game, this UPSL season is a chance to be part of something special.

Robbert’s message to the fans:

“Come out, wear orange, bring your friends and family, and help us write the next chapter in Lions history. We’ve made history before — and with your support, we’ll do it again.”

Dennis’ closing words:

“We’re ready for this challenge, and we want the people of Conroe and Houston to be part of it. The UPSL is about competition, growth, and pride — and we’re going to give everything to make this season one to remember.”
